Geotechnical Engineer
Join with the one the largest assembled teams of geotechnical mining professionals in the world call GSS (geotechnical support service) to ensure our technologies are always operating at their maximum potential and our customers are getting the most out of their asset. GSS is a world class global support network that assists our customers with effective slope stability and underground risk management through comprehensive technical support.
Key to your success in this role will be demonstrating your initiative to learn, develop, and succeed; applicants must also demonstrate experience preparing and presenting reports, delivering training to individuals and small groups, and have a working knowledge of mining geotechnical will be highly regarded. Applicants with underground and open cut mining environment experience are desirable, as well as relevant technical experience in a customer service based organisation or similar.
Main activities of the role include.
• Work safely, and with regard to the safety of others, including:
o Compliance with all OH&S policies and procedures
o Actively work to improve safety in the workplace
• Perform as an advanced level SSR data analyst to deliver geotechnical services.
• Generate revenue from client training and reporting.
• Review and sign off reports done by junior members of the geotechnical support services team, i.e. Graduate Geotechnical Engineer.
• Help maintaining an information database on wall failure data captured by GroundProbe’s SSR technology and the associated geotechnical information. Provide a live record of wall failures.
• Encourage and promote the use of GroundProbe’s products and services
• Ensure optimal use of SSR systems through provision of education and guidance to GroundProbe staff and existing clients
• Undertake geotechnical based research under the direction of the Principal Geotechnical Engineer.
• Gather feedback from customers in order to help the development of new systems, technologies, features, etc.
If you have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in open pit mines or rock engineering (consulting experience would be well considered), demonstrated direct geotechnical experience with the SSR Technology would be well considered and want to apply your knowledge and skill to the mining technology industry then this opportunity may be for you!
Further qualifications and experience includes:
• Geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, mining engineering or engineering geology degree (Postgraduate education would be well considered)
• The ability to work independently at remote sites
• Excellent written, verbal and communication skills including presentation and documentation skills
• Advanced computer skills
• Fluency in English, with other languages advantageous (Bahasa, Mandarin, Spanish, French or Portuguese)
The position will be based in Balikpapan and opportunity to work at remote mine sites in Indonesia and overseas.
